4 Things to do in NYC if you love Disney!
I love visiting Disney World, like every other Disney fan I get totally sucked into the magic, but sometimes the price or the crowds can put you off. Have no fear! There are lots of trips you can take all over the world and still get your Disney fix, and This week I will be highlighting 4 (or maybe 5…) amazing Disney things that you can experience in New York City.
1) The Disney Store in Times Square
The Disney Store in Times Square, NYC is huuuuge. Not quite as big as World of Disney in Orlando, but pretty exciting regardless. They also sell tons of cute NYC themed Mickey and Minnie Mouse stuff, like Minnie dressed as the Statue of Liberty (swoon).
2) Central Park and the Alice in Wonderland Statue
Located just inside Central Park (head in at 76th Street and 5th Avenue and turn left) this cute statue could be easy to miss since the park is so big.
Tip: If you want a picture do not go at 1 in the afternoon on a warm sunny day when kids are out of school (like I did) instead get up early and head there for sunrise or just a little after!
3) Alice’s Tea Cup
Next up is Alice’s Tea Cup and if you love tea and Alice in Wonderland you must head to this sweet little shop in the same neighbourhood as the Museum of Natural History. The whole restaurant is themed Alice in Wonderland and my favourite part was looking inside one of the tables. It was a shadow box filled with Alice in Wonderland goodies. With so many varieties of tea and home made scones freshly baked in new flavours each day, this was one of my favourite stops!
Tip: It can get crowded on the weekend and they do not accept reservations Sunday and Saturday so go at an odd time or be prepared to wait a little for a table. When my group of three got there around 10 AM there was a 45 min wait, but I saw two double tables and just asked if we could split up since we didn’t have a lot of time. It worked and we were still close enough to chat.
4) See a Broadway show
Disney on Broadway is a Disney lovers dream! Right now Disney on Broadway has Aladdin, Frozen, and The Lion King, but they do change it up. I have seen The Lion King and Aladdin and both were filled with Disney magic.
Tip: Get tickets in advance since these shows can be expensive and do fill up and check out Broadway for Broke People and Playbill.com to see what shows have great discounts.
Even if you don’t see a Broadway show go check out the theatres. The Aladdin theatre has a magic lamp you can pose with that is always empty during the day (though at night when the shows are on it gets really crowded!)
Bonus:
Did you know that the original Winnie the Pooh and friends teddies are in NYC? That’s right! See them in the children’s section of the main branch of the New York Public Library (the Stephen A. Schwartzman building). They are sooooooo cute!
I just love searching out Disney experiences all over, and It helps that New York is one of my favourite places ever.
